DPR and LPR were Feb 2022. Kyiv's inability/refusal to negotiate has led to more regions being annexed (IMO only those held by Russia should be considered Russian - thankfully I have literally zero sway in politics). The population in DPR/LPR have been fighting the AFU for years. They'd be in the same situation they were in prior to Russia's Feb invasion (ie: not happy?).
