If you buy before the ex-div date you get the dividend. The ex-div date is the first day where transactions in shares are "ex-div" - quite logical really. In fact, near the ex-div date, the ComSec contract notes uses the following terminology "WE HAVE BOUGHT THE FOLLOWING SECURITIES FOR YOU
Ex Dividend "
and carries on from there with the normal stuff.
Just before the ex-div date it will say "cum dividend" instead of "ex dividend".
