I would say that a dividend trap happens where a stock trades on a valuation that is dependent on being able to maintain a high dividend whereas in the case of TOT it's being priced as though the dividend will drop substantially in coming years. I could see how people might get sucked into the yield though as it does look almost ridiculously high at this point. Also just a heads up that the article link is actually about TGP which is the manager of TOT and also it's own listed entity. I know it's very easy to confuse the two particularly considering that TGP is also the majority shareholder in TOT but it's a different business that includes different assets such as the recently built up stake in HPI.
