Tomboy, you might not have noticed that China has gone from being a massive importer of LME transactional nickel (pure elemental nickel) to being only a meagre importer of it. On the other hand, their importation of nickel pig iron and nickel in a form useful for battery production has increased greatly. Knowledge of that shift in demand could well induce someone to short the elemental LME nickel.
