Vic Labor and Labor generally currently suffer from a lack of common sense when it comes to gas policy. Instead of keeping open the coal fired power station in NSW by spending millions, the more sensible option is to build several small gas powered generators that can be switched on or off as demand requires. These have a life of at least 10 years, plenty of time to buffer the transition from fossil fuels to renewables. A cheap effective answer.
From the other side of politics we get project padding. Scot byebyes answer was a gas plant with three times the required generation capacity needed to fill the gap, and we still have Sky commentators pushing for nukes, once again attempting to suck as much money out of the government purse as possible.
I take notice of aemo in this debate, from what I've seen they talk sense; if only the pollies would follow suit.
