across the planet exceedingly high temperatures and extreme dry conditions are causing massive fires across whole continents. shortly after there are rains so heavy, eg Libya had > 400mm in 24 hours.... exceeding the annual rainfall in 24 hours, and flooding so severely that makes the Brisbane or Lismore floods look like a splash in the gutter.
with El Niño building up and a negative Indian Ocean Dipole on northwest WA, we are facing similar conditions to 2018/19 this summer. we may not get floods this summer, but insurance companies have increased the premiums by 60% or more to ensure they have the liquidity to pay out for extreme fire events. one thing we can always trust is insurance risk assessments.
but the real point is not so much the risk this summer, but the actual cause of climate change. Global Warming is very real. the impact on winter ice formation this year has been a true signal event.
