There is also the possibility that BHP choose to retain one or both of these mines. If BHP really & sincerely wanted to get out of coal they should have announced a plan to sell off all of their assets over a 10 year period so it does raise some doubts that their intention might be to be seen to be doing something to get out of coal rather than to actually do it and these two mines don't significantly reduce their coal assets. The price that BHP has set as a reserve might be way above the offers. Given the amount of time that this process is taking it seems like there isn't an a clear winner. It would be good if all offers are extremely low just to see how BHP publicly explains how they have chosen to retain the assets & the feedback from some of their activist shareholders would be interesting to watch..
