The kings of mining, Rio Tinto, were beaten in Rautalampi by landowners and municipality.
Rio Tinto spend a lot for flight measurements and prospecting with huge reservations but retreated without drilling one meter.
The company stated: "geologiset tiedot eivät tukeneet yhtiön jatkosuunnitelmia" meaning
"geologic information did not support continuation plans of the company".

New mining law gives more power to landowners and municipalities
It would appear that major reason was the heavy resistance by the landowners and the Rautalampi municipality

1) acceptance of landowners corresponding to 50% of the area (61 a§)
would be needed for new exploration licenses after 10 years of exploration.
There is almost 1000 people on a Facebook group of Pro Rautalampi against the Rio Tinto plans
in a municipality of less than 3000 people

2) for a mine a land plan for a mine by municipality would be needed (47§)

Now Kingsrose (the jokers in mining?) has bought reservations in Rautalampi-Suonenjoki, partially in same regions
which were given up by Rio Tinto. See links to reservation notices at the end. There is also a new large reservation
in middle Finland.
They have not discussed with locals.
Welcome is expected to be as warm if not even hot as with Rio Tinto.
One may wonder what is the point of applying rights in municipalities where exploration will end at least after
10 years and mine will not get a land plan?
The answer is obviously to attract investor money as the risk of investors getting real information about the risks is low.
Element-46 got kicked out from Finland
It appears that Kingsrose is specialized on non-sustainable projects.
The company providing the projects, Element-46 with daughter Pallagen, was laughed out of Finland.
They applied a reservation on the lake Päijänne but cancelled the application, because
furious protests and threat of major court case.

Pallagen even tried Osikonmäki, which has killed several exploration companies, before disappearing
and selling assets to Kingsrose.
