Sort of OT, but I was over at Komodo Island, Indonesia, which is North of the Lesser Sunda Islands that HGO is doing some field work at.

Its quite an interesting place. I was expecting to see plenty of lush islands covered in coconut trees and the usual sort of tropical vegetation. But instead it looked very... New Zealand like. Low lying grass, and a few assorted Weeping Willow sort of trees.

I guess its because the islands were created through volcanic action. They don't call this area "The Ring of Fire" for nothing.
