IMO Russia didn't retaliate by taking out some US undersea communication cables
because Russia has likely a long term plan for dealing with the US economically.
IMO, the greatest bang for buck for Russia would be to wait until the US hits recession
and then have a go.

As we've seen with the NordStream sabotage. undersea infrastructure sabotage is difficult
to detect before and during the act and from the above article the US was likely planning
the sabotage for well over a year . Its interesting that the CIA likely colluded with Norway (a NATO Member then)
rather than the closest country which was Sweden which was Neutral then.
