just btw .....there are other deterrents apart form nuclear ....rusisa has more to lose and russia has been warned what the US will do in the case of a tactical nuke being used in Ukraine - we have not been told but we can guess perhaps ....NATO troops on the ground ....possible loss of rusian enclaves in Europe ....much greater alienation of russia economically

russia also knows there would be a huge backlash from nation at present neutral in this conflict - very unlikely to happen

russia are no longer a superpower --- for their own sake as well as everyone elses they need to adjust to this reality
the only one desperate for this war of aggression now is putin ....so much to lose
