So where did the 47 million shares come from and the 35 million last week?

In the Annual report, there are only 12 holders with more than 35 million shares. It is possible that someone had been accumulating the 47 and 35 million over a period but looking at the daily trading figures probably unlikely.

Out of the 12 shareholders with more than 35 million holding we can discount TG - probably not legal during the current situation. I would discount State Street as they probably don’t have any shares which haven’t already been lent out. But that is their business, so possible. There are also some other banking type institutions there that could be responsible.

    Scenario

If I have 100 million shares and I "lend" 35 million to be shorted, then take the proceeds from the short sale and buy these 35 million back myself. I now have 135 million shares, in theory. Although this requires some action later in the months to buy back the shares shorted. But it increases the number of shares without actually paying any more. Again just deferring the day you have to pay.

By then the plan would have been to have lowered the share price. Perhaps with ALB falling through and talking up finance and other probably non existent issues.

Can this happen - who knows it is all too hard for me. It's the only way I can see these large blocks coming up.
