BobF - great post. Just as a follow up to your suggestion about the manipulators selling to themselves or collaborators. I submitted a BUY order this afternoon for a parcel at $2.97. There seemed to be a lot of trades at this price just prior to me placing my order, and I noticed a moment when all buys at this price were taken out. So my order went straight to the top of the queue, and many, many small orders immediately built up below me at the same price. However, from the start there was a big drop in the sell volume into my BUY order, only perhaps a handful every couple of minutes. All sell orders at $2.98 also suddenly disappeared, perhaps trying to panic me. I really felt like this was all algo trading, like I was playing chess with a computer, and the algos didn't want to trade with me. This snail-paced selling went on for about 10 minutes, before someone sold into the rest of my order and filled it. Once I was gone, the trading volume seemed to return. It really felt like the trading was being controlled, to stop retail punters like me from buying at these low prices. Of course, I could have bought from off screen, but thought I'd try the wait and see approach for once. Anyway, the addition of a parcel at $2.97 helps to reduce my average buy price.
