Yes , it's not the same mechanism as shorting a futures contract.
As people have said you can't sell something you don't own. So the "shorters" borrow the shares from someone who has them. Then they sell them. Then they buy them back and finally give them back to whoever they borrowed them from.
Not shorting from a purist point of view, but practically it achieves a similar outcome.
Anyway enough about shorts. Let's look forward to Coby building the business.
