Only one comment from me on this topic around my nutty theory - I think the link between diet and exercise has a background element which is spending time outdoors and exposure to daylight. My nutty theory is that lack of sunlight and excess sunscreen (particularly organic absorption sunscreens) will in the end be found to have had a negative impact on life expectancy. There are charts based on giant data sets that show increased life expectancy for increased life's time sun exposure for all levels of sun exposure.

I won't go into further detail because I don't want to look too crazy, but please have a read of proper scientific research on the topic if you're interested.
