no to exercise the shares you have to pay 30c there is very little benefit in excercise overly early hold for leverage - so share reaches $1 options will trade at 70c - you pay 30c and the 40,000 shares cost you $200 + $12000 = $12,200 for shares worth $40,000.
or you sell them for the 70c and don't excercise them
