Moon, well done to you for dragging yourself out of your dysfunctional situation, but there's many differences between you and your typical remote area Aboriginal. I'm assuming even during those dysfunctional years you managed to get an education which enabled you to become self sufficient due to gainful employment, which then allowed you to relocate to a location of your choice. You seem like a cheerful sort of chap so life must be pretty good for you, so well done. With ATSI kids it's a different scenario, as it's cultural as well as dysfunctional. Choices are fantastic if you have them. A child growing up in a remote community doesn't know anything else, so how are those choices in play? Choices are only relevant when you have them. You got your education and embarked on a career, and chose greener pastures, thats something an Aboriginal cannot do without education.
A haphazard first few years of a truancy filled primary education is the best they can get in most communities. What choices does that give them in 2023? We can all see the impressive list of Aboriginal professionals in the workplace today thanks to education, but they are a minority. The stats say that an Aboriginal kid is far more likely to go to prison than university. That stat alone tells the story of what no education means. The Voice is meant to give them hope and opportunity, then they will have the power to choose a direction just like the rest of us. It's a very basic human right. .
