Stimulus spending does create jobs and I am sure that if the Coalition was in power, they would have done much the same. The only issue is that the Coalition might not have applied as much stimulus. The stimulus spending by the government was as per the recommendations of the Treasury, prominent economists the USA/European policy makers. If the economic thinking of the Great Depression had been applied that budget deficits are a sign of poor governance, unemployment would have gone well over 10% and stayed at a high level for much longer. Then everyone would be complaining about how the Labor government did nothing to get the economy going.
