I don't pretend to understand it in full, and I've done a physics honours degree, although quite some time ago.
Physics is at its heart is relatively simple and elegant but the maths is very, very complicated. Get ready for some extremely heavy calculus if you study physics beyond high school.
If you want something else to think about then try "string theory", which is a developing theory in particle physics that attempts to reconcile quantum mechanics and general relativity.
One thing that irks me is that we all agree that we don't understand quantum mechanics because it is so esoteric and complex, but when it comes to climate change (also very complex) we are all of a sudden freaking experts and it isn't happening!
