US position report for September was released this morning.
Crop receipts for the month of September (I deliberately excluded August due to the late start to harvest) was 555m pounds vs 714m pounds for September 2022 indicating that the late start to the harvest has had a significant impact on the US crop.
Meanwhile shipments for September increased by 3.1% vs last year and commitments are running very strong for exports, up 26.4% compared to the same time last year, although domestic commitments are down 23.1% so overall commitments are up only 1.2%
This still leaves uncommitted inventory at a low of 309m pounds, which for recent years is very low.
Rejects are of concern for growers at 3.99% which is about double the usual rate. Rejects for the major variety, nonpareil, is currently 4.46% which is abnormally high.
All of the above is currently pointing to upward price pressures, particularly on the premium nonpareil variety.
