The outcome says nothing at all about the empathy of voters towards Indigenous Australians. It says a great deal about the high-risk and divisive proposal which a small group of well-off Indigenous ‘leaders’ cooked up to strengthen their own power base and stoke racial division in Australia. It says a lot too about the gullibility, arrogance and sheer stupidity of Albanese as he tried to coax and shame Australians into supporting that proposal.

Another case of “The mob will always get it right”. Australians will continue to have empathy towards Indigenous Australians who genuinely need help and support — the women being bashed in outback communities, for example, and the many kids whose lives are being trashed in those same communities. Langton, Pearson, Mayo and the like do not qualify, sorry. It would be good if they extended their week of silence indefinitely.
