"Ms Silver worked regularly as a volunteer driver for a project funded by an Australian charity, Project Rozana, which collects critically ill Palestinian children and takes them to hospitals in Israel for treatment.
The charity is run by her friend, Melbourne businessman Ron Finkel. He's known Ms Silver for 52 years.
"She has been a social activist and dedicated to the cause of peace. It's part of her DNA," Mr Finkel said."
