Non Filamentry is clearly new space. The paper was more about the generic architecture of ReRam and variables that can be tuned and their impact / relationship to each other.

Non Filamentry theoretically should make the specific metrics like endurance, retention potentially better than a filamentry equivalent but the trade off's still exist in the physics. If you have achieved X in endurance , Y in Retention, Z in Speed and K in temp for example the maths still works very similar you may just have better figures to work with. This maths isn't particularly new or isolated to reram.
