Tanbreez is a problem because it has the mineral eudialyte containing rare earths. This is a difficult ore to process and the owner has been looking for financial backers for years. So far as I know there are no mines producing rare earths from eudialyte.
That's the first time I have heard it described as "#1 mining asset in the World."
The ETM group on HotCopper has a lot of discussion on Tanbreez.
