Overview:As the Senior Equipment Engineer, you will lead manufacturing equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrades supporting fab development and production. You must emphasize increased quality, safety, and process development results. This position will report directly to the Site Director of Operations. Candidates must have multi-disciplined semiconductor troubleshooting and repair experience, including front-end wafer fab experience. The candidate will be required to work with technical and production staff to establish 5S and SPC protocols, troubleshoot and resolve out-of-control conditions, and maintain safety, stability, reliability, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
The Senior Equipment Engineer will also be responsible for the monitoring of the facility BMS and support equipment. Will be required to fix/report issues when they occur while also assisting in the capacity expansion of BluGlass production lines. Candidates must also collect/report data to outside agencies/management to include SWPPP, Wastewater data, and CUPA agencies while adhering to local, state, and federal ordinances.
Objective:Oversee all operational aspects of site equipment at our Fremont, California facility, supporting the development and launch of our first GaN Lasers to the market. Establish equipment quality, safety, and operational standards (OEE) necessary to launch and deliver a continuous supply of innovative GaN Diode Lasers, thereafter.
Principal areas/functions:80% Cleanroom Process Equipment and Facility Support & Maintenance:
- Perform scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs of semiconductor tools and sustaining equipment coordinating equipment schedules and availability with internal production and development groups
- Work with engineers and manufacturing with the implementation of preventative/predictive maintenance, and procedural documentation
- Will perform repairs and maintenance in accordance with blueprints, diagrams, operation manuals, and manufacturer’s specifications using hand tools, power tools, measuring and testing instruments
- Perform projects, to include installation and upgrades of equipment, varying in size, scope, and budgets, ensuring project completion within established timelines
- Investigate and select vendors, contractors, and suppliers for production tools and facility-related services
- Organize and maintain spare parts and chemical inventories
20% Administrative, Environmental, Health, & Safety oversight:
- Establish, monitor, analyze, and report key performance metrics while ensuring all safety equipment is inspected and in good order.
- Responsible for upgrading and modifying equipment to meet local and state regulations ensuring compliance with federal and state building codes.
- Work with internal BluGlass safety team (US & Australia) and subcontractors for site compliance to Corporate, Governmental, and Municipal Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) rules and regulations.
- Update/track permits and inspections as required by outside agencies
- Responsible for Chemical (per RCRA) and Hazardous Waste Disposal; prepare required reports as needed.
- Wear appropriate personal protective safety equipment and follow established safety practices and procedures according to OSHA standards.
Background/Skills:- Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or equivalent knowledge and experience.
- Prefer 10+ years of front-end semiconductor process equipment repair knowledge (i.e., etchers, coaters, wet benches, controllers, power supplies, pumps, laser scribe & break, metrology, hazardous waste containment systems, etc.)
- Self-starter with an ability to identify/fill gaps using strong problem-solving skills
- Mechanical and electrical aptitude with a hands-on approach; related certifications are a plus. Ability to read and interpret machine manuals and electrical diagrams to facilitate new and old production equipment.
- Comprehensive communication skills (both oral and written) are required, as are Interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with executives, engineers, operators, technicians, and vendors
- Experience with quality systems and requirements a plus
- Ability to work in a clean room environment and to climb and maneuver in restrictive environments is required.
- Dependable and able to maintain on-call hours or occasional irregular work hours or work week
- Self-driven with the flexibility to work independently or under general guidance and direction
- Emergency Response Team (ERT) and SCBA experience a plus
- Ability to establish processes and mentor others (5S, Statistical Process Control, Industrial DOE matrices, OEE, TPM, and so forth)
- Math, physics, and general engineering understanding are required. A good candidate should be able to adapt to problems involving linear algebra, numerical methods, statistics, software, and hardware implementations.
- Strong organizational and decision-making skills with the ability to deal with ambiguity and drive clarity

Additional Input:The position is based out of the BluGlass Wafer Fabrication facility in Fremont, CA.
