"More generally, some have suggested Malcom Turnbull should have run the campaign - if he was still leader, we would have had an emissions trading regime by now, and Kevin Rudd would still be PM. Kevin would have won the election on an easy cakewalk. "
I agree prhb.
The libs were "undiciplined" and actually acted in a democratic way re ETS.
Labor were "disaplined" along party lines and stifled democracy, imo. They paid the price for that and lost votes.
They had too oust their own leader in order to function in this democratic system.
The system was put under enormous straign when freedom to choose, and a few take charge to stifle anything outside the party line.
Tony gained leadership when party members had the right to vote on a very difficult policy and even put their own jobs on the line to do it.
A brilliant part of Australian democracy in action.
The electorate may not have conciously voted with this in mind but as PRHB says
Things would have been a lot different had democracy been stifled by mindless disapline in the opposition too.
