around 600,000 Arabs left Israel. some because they were told by the invaders that they would be free to return after they had beaten the Jews, others had sold their homes and some were driven out.
there were about 6-700,000 refugees originally, but this has increased to several million. the only refugees to have their own UN agency and the only refugees to have up to three generations still refugees.
