SBL, i'd assume its because JW put Liam in place as a bit of a gimmick to get people off his back from calling him. Then he just used the excuse of being at the mine site and having no access to a phone.
I don't really believe Liam is privy to any more information then us, and by calling him, he basically would call Albert and get the same answers as if we called Albert directly.
Thats my understanding anyway.
