good article.
having been a professional renovator, I don't do much of the labour anymore (love the old homes)
I can say, first timers do underestimate the stress of renovations, the mess, the disruptions to the daily life
especially if you are a clean freak.
for some, its better to buy what you need, with just a few decorations to suit personal tastes
for others, thats were we can get a little niche in the market, and don't mind the hard yards.
I actually really enjoy turning something around, and have a lot of experience with older places.
Older places, however can be a trap for overenthusiastic first timers.
actually, have had to fix up a few disasters myself.
I still enjoy the challenge of planning a nice reno though.
