I watched both my parents die slow lingering deaths in palliative care units - both supposedly state of the art "End of Life" facilities and let me tell you their respective "ends" where neither comforting, gentle or peaceful. My advice to anyone with elderly family members is to have open and honest discussions re VAD well before it's necessary to do so.
