Have faith, be patient and be loyal and the rewards will come. If everyone is just driven by "greed" and short term "instant gratification", nothing major will ever get done / achieved and the rewards will end up with those that come along and grab "all the hard work already done" for a pittance.
That, from my reading, is one major difference between (the typical) western philosophy ... want gratification / returns /outcomes quickly (maybe 10 year max horizon) whereas the Chinese take a much longer philosophical horizon ... at times several generations to achieve their longterm strategic goals The old (Chinese?) saying "The dripping watter/tap will slowly wear away the stone".
