Going through all the speculation on hotcopper i wanted to try and look at possible valuations... final result .... anybody's guess ...--------------------------------------------------------As a subset of the SPE there is an elite group of engineers who do valuations. Some 500-600 globally and probably less than 20 in the Asia Pacific Region. I doubt any subscribe to HotCopper or care.
About – SPEE
This article provides some idea of how a valuation of a property is undertaken.
(25) Valuing Oil and Gas Properties | LinkedIn
There are two graphics in the article that show how maturing a property adds significantly to a valuation. This first graphic (2015) shows how different classes of reserves are adjusted. (100.0 means full value). But this is not the oil price, but what a company would pay for a fully developed proven producing field.
Unfortunately, Prospective Resources are not shown on this table. This table is published each year taking a survey of the those who are doing these valuations. But extrapolating I might use a RAF of 0.5 for a Prospective Resource.
The second graphic that some would have seen shows the SPE classification of resources and reserves.
As risk increases in each classification it is near an order of magnitude of uncertainty according to the SPEE table.
I created a table based up the above methodology using various $/boe valuations and assuming 5 billion boe prospective resources as currently published and assuming MK-2 delivers 100 million boe contingent resource.
As for share price that is a totally different thing. You can have the best house on the street, but if there is nobody wanting to buy it then it is peanuts. Or you can have an old lady from Victoria drive by your house one day and offer you $ 1 million.
The valuation of IVZ is a complicated factor.
- results from MK-2
- what the retail crowd interpret those results to mean .... short term
- what the institutional crowd interpret those results to mean .... medium term
- what the potential partners interpret those results to mean .... long term
