in the field of diagnostics in life sciences microfluidics is a well established field with many players. A key thing that the industry is working towards is nano litres of fluid samples. This has 2 main benefits - less sample required to start with, and more crucial - smaller high density channels effectively amplifies the sensitivity. 4 sensors can also actually confirm a detection of one marker 4 times over in a testing scenario in parallel, in other words, no time wasted to repeat and confirm. Significant increase in measurement precision. Highly desirable.
Working to miniaturise also has the other goal of packaging this in a more mobile set up, which is more accessible away from the lab but is also apparently a useful thing in a research lab as well.
Next note from lab that we would like to see am sure is, which targeted viral detection has been confirmed.....
