Bots are algorithms designed to front run orders using high frequency trading Market movers and the likes will have a target number of shares they want to aquire at a certain price so deploy bots to purchase the small quantities to ensure price remains low.

So it could be a good sign that they see value and wanting to build a position or just see an opportunity short term in which case they are selling into perceived strength created by bot trades pushing the price up as well.

Some of the small volume prints might actually be residue packages from orders.

There's a Kool book by the guy who wrote big short, about high frequency traders, flash boys by Michael Lewis. There is are hft servers in Sydney right next door to the main exchange.
