Much of the current livestock price slump comes from the lack of processing space. Australians don’t want to work in this industry apparently and we have a huge labour shortage. Our local plant is processing 4500 cattle per week. Capacity is over 6000 week. Meat buyers don’t have to pay up at present. Supply is exceeding kill capacity. Many are trying to recoup losses from the last two years of very high livestock prices. The WA sheep producers are getting screwed by the ALP as they move to ban live export of sheep.

spot on , and what is not often spoken of is the huge expansion in feedlot capacity that has happened in the last decade. The feedlots got bigger and the abattoirs did not. result is a huge log jam
