SFR's Matsa mining complex has three mines: Aguas Tenedus, Magdalena and Sotiel. The concentrator sits close to the first two, the main feed sources, with Sotiel 38km away supplying only 0.5mt.
The 31 August 2023 Mineral Resource update shows Aguas Tenedus MR of 44mt, Magdalena MR of 23mt and Sotiel MR of 73mt.
Aguas Tenedus and Magdalena are copper-rich, while Sotiel is relatively zinc-rich and sorely underexploited.
Slide 19 of the
September 2023 Quarterly presentation suggests a future state where Aguas Tenedus and Magdalena increase output to fully fill the existing concentrator and a dedicated concentrator is built for Sotiel.
Matsa's production would then be considerably greater.
Adding a Sotiel concentrator to process a known orebody with proven technology would likely be quick, low risk and high return.
It is too early to capitalise this project, yet there it is. Look out for future announcements around this.
