- From memory every time I've sampled a zone showing water wet with residual gas on log interpretation the sample has basically come back as fizzy water...ie water with dissolved gas. During pump out there was always water showing on the fluid analyzer usually with intermittent slugs of gas..depending on pressure draw down and a few other factors. The resistivity cell in the probe would also give indications of water.....and in most cases there'd be a fair indication from same as to whether the water was filtrate or formation water....or both. Where the sample was collected in an MRSC chamber and cracked at surface both water and gas were yielded by the chamber.

If they got a pure gas sample in the chamber then there are two possibilities: 1) they sampled an isolated pocket of gas within a largely water wet zone or 2) the log interpretation is way out and the MDT CFA and resistivity cell were both giving erroneous indications (something Ive never seen).

The announcement.....I would have liked to have seen a clear statement that the chamber contained only gas and no water.
