Your cities being connected by HV DC cabling has nothing to do with ugliness or rather to eliminate the overheads. Its an efficiency reason. Overhead AC High tension lines have high impedance losses, windage and temperature failures due to stretch from snow etc. They suffer harmonics from vibrations hence the stockbridge danpers at the towers. The power is sinudoidal ie AC. And all sinusoidal waves have an rms 0.7071 of peak and 0.6374 near DC rectified value. So By running Inverted DC all these problems are eliminated and the cables can be used to export power via underwater. The average DC voltage max on the cables is at peak voltage continually , at full stress the cable insulation can handle. No one runs DC high voltage to humour the masses. It is just far far better on longer distances. North South Is New Zealand uses it. Never failed. It is an illusion the energy authorities use HV DV as a marketing tool. Its pure electrical engineering decisions only. Im also happy to go fully into HV zoning fault conditions that cause power line disconnects interrupts but Ive gone on enough. With full respect Your a little out of your area buying into power transmission and distribution. In saying that I appreciate your reply. Back to Lynas can anyone forward info on how many wind farm customers Lynas had. Directly or other.
