After giving the issue some additional thought, if they started the MDT sampling from 3400m MD upwards there would be greater step out from the original hole at 3400m, which means potentially less scope for encountering mud invasion. At the top of the well, the step out is very small, so the PA, and the upper zones containing light oil and rich gas condensate might have already been invaded by mud filtrate due to M-2 being open for 4 weeks or more. Not wishing to sound a killjoy, but there it is.
In order to minimize risk, running the XPT has been mentioned, which would reduce the time spent in hole with the MDT. What was the final decision?
