I have faith in John. Broadly agree with your post. But I repeat: selling (as a real activity) is very expensive. It's very inefficient, needs lots of follow-up, support from HQ and support for the client. When doing it internationally from Melbourne, well, imagine...
I am not cynical. But not too comfortable either.
My guess is John is focussing on avoiding trying to do too much.
