With both open hole and cased hole MDT you do a pretest to confirm mobility and then start up the pump out sub (POS). POS keeps running until you're flowing clean formation fluid then continues pumping to fill the chamber and then over pressure same. Workings of the tool are same as the open hole version except for the probe module with its drill and plugging mechanism.
