Partially true, the 'safety in numbers', 'birds of a feather thing' ... they made it more appealing to the Sephardi and especially Ashkenazim but well before that as the fellow explains (and btw the sunnah), slaughters or conversions by force took place in the name of their pagan looking mutt (they call allah).
