    To be clear, I am not saying gold was a better investment than property. I love property and think it has provided a better return, but to say you went backwards if you bought gold 50 years ago, I don't think so.

    Cumulative inflation at 3% over 50 years is only 4.4 times the original value. That's $153. Gold is $3,000.
