Without being a conspiracy theorist, and I am not, if oaktree are going to pitch in at9 cents, wouldn't it be in there interests to have the share price lower so they could buy buckets of them, average down, and then sell at a price higher. lose on original but not as much and still maintain numbers.
Or a lower share price opens up the opportunity for majority ownership. Trouble is EQR is not liquid enough for either to be effective. But perhaps they may have hoped that a lot more sellers came to be. Thinking like this as I cannot explain why anyone would sell at these levels considering the positive outlook.
