Just one point further to my above post which may or may not explain the comment in the announcement that the results so far showed exsolved helium (ie, liberated from saturated water) and enriched helium in gas bubbles in the drilling mud. A possible explanation is that as with any fluid, such as water, you can only dissolve "x" amount of any gas before saturation is reached. Simple 101 high school chemistry. We do know that the saturation limit of helium in groundwater at depth is very low. If there is excess helium being produced by the geological formation its not able to be dissolved beyond this saturation level so it remains "uncombined" in the formation. Is this I wonder the enriched helium they refer to in the announcement. So bloody confusing, c'mon management, some clarification on today's announcement is necessary.
