Locally, Darwin’s one of the most multicultural cities in Australia, apart from the rift raft we put up with daily, everyone gets on well here, so much so, when the Giles Clp party we’re in charge, they decided to Lease the Darwin Ports to Chinese (Landbridge group) for 99 years… Didn’t this cause a stir around the world…no that much around old D-town… don’t believe they protested to hard with picket fences… ironically, it was around the same time the Gov sold of our local insurer TIO, there were bigger protests about that, they sold Tio because if there was a huge cyclone, Tio couldn’t afford the pay-out, Aluze?, bought them.. problem was, Gov spin doctors didn’t really tell the public tthis situation til after they sold Tio.. hence the protest. anyway, back to the Chinese and the ports ( East Arm/Fort hill) the ports needed quite a lot of maintenance repairs done, which the Gov couldn’t afford, leasing got that sorted there’s also a lot more work out there now, as a couple mates are wharfies. so my point is, as long as there no trading embargo’s going on. All is good.
