I thinks its worth noting also that saying that they "lost" money is also an exaggeration.
Its worth diving into the why and there seems to be a tsunami of comments related to just a number without any interpretation or explanation of the what and why.
As you inferred, if a company spent $10m on plant then that would appear in cash-flow numbers (to some on here) as loosing $10m. Proper interpretation would accept that this is a one of cost and the benefit comes back over numerous years.
For my 10 cents (or 5.7cents at time of writing) it's ludicrous to be looking at cash-flow numbers right now and not trying to atleast understand what's behind them, during ramp up / increasing capacity / refining processes / blasting etc phases.
Perhaps those that try to come across as "knowing all" can pick up the cash-flow reports of AMAZON from early days and point out how and where they got it all wrong, loosing all that money in the early stages.....
