So ...whilst its not graphite or lithium ...MP Materials ( the Mountain Pass mine ) in the USA ...presently the only commercial source of rare earthe ( neodynium/praesodynium ) in the Usa --sends all its raw materials , for processing into magnets/magnet status materials , which are then returned TO THE USA , to go into manufactured ev /wind turbine /generators . Whilst MP mATERIALS are trying to pursue a mines to magnets priogramme , they are light years away from commercial reality !
The USA is in an absolute mess in this positioning race with China ...and as far as graphite goes , Syrah is the one and only beacon of hope ( as regards natural graphite) on achieving a "made in USA "status . Hence , co-operation with Mozambique ( and the $150 mill loan offer for Balama in the pipeline ) , and the further funding for Vidalia ...seems one of the few flagpoles that the DOE has to showcase America's success story in this Biden Administration "power on" to green energy
