Heavy rare earth oxides are significant not so much in revenue or volume (a little goes a long way) but in the fact that they are the missing link in outside China rare earth supply chain. At the moment the heavies are separated only in China. France used to some years ago but were shut down due to Chinese competition, although I believe they might be active again. Regardless, Lynas Heavy RE separation in the US will pretty much remove the dependence on China for the full suite of oxides required for magnet making. Really, a fully independent outside China supply chain. Cannot overstate the importance of that to magnet makers and the Dept of Defence for weapons etc.
