Of course the 25-30 years is a bit of guess work from the manufacturer but a quick google will indicate that Cementless tritanium replacements have had good results so far.
Think you're being a bit rough mate, Leroy sounds like he clearly got to his wits end and had to bite the bullet and get them replaced.
